Spiego i motivi delle mie scelte: il seminale Carl Einstein di Negerplastik e il Leiris-Delange, mi sembra, hanno costituito – ognuno nella sua epoca – il fondamento dell’estetica occidentale applicata alle arti tradizionali africane, superando in questo il tanto decantato (e, secondo me, un po’ sopravvalutato) Kerchache-Paudrat-Stephan; il Cornet perché è stato il primo testo “moderno” ad operare compiutamente sulla linea inaugurata da Kjersmeier e ad identificare con precisione i centri di stile all’interno di una determinata macroarea (in quel caso il Congo RDC); il Neyt per la tecnica di individuazione dei sottostili all’interno di un unico centro di stile e il Robbins-Nooter per la sua ampiezza e insostituibilità come repertorio iconografico di materiale di alto livello qualitativo.
